5 Foods to Avoid that Can Negatively Affect Your Teeth

Developing healthy eating habits as well as maintaining good oral hygiene are important for keeping teeth and gums healthy. Calcium rich foods (such as broccoli, cheese, fish, milk and yogurt), vitamin C rich foods (such as grapefruits and oranges) as well as crunchy fruit and veggies (such as apples, carrots, celery and pears) are recommended for better oral health.

However, there are also foods which can destroy your teeth. Therefore, you must exclude these foods from your diet. In this blog, we are going to highlight 5 foods which can have a negative impact on the teeth, staining the teeth to causing various other dental problems. Limited the intake or avoid them altogether teeth healthy.  

1) Berries

Berries as Blueberries, Cranberries, Cherries as well as Raspberries are rich in vitamins and minerals which your body needs. So, eating berries is beneficial for our overall health. However, it is important to know that berries cause stains which can negatively affect your teeth. So put a limit on your berry intake to keep your teeth healthy. However, since berries are good for health, many people find it difficult to refuse them.  Thus, in order to prevent staining your teeth or dental implants, rinse your mouth with water thoroughly after eating berries.

2) Dried Fruits

Dried fruits are an excellent source of vitamins and healthy nutrients. That’s why dried fruits have become an alternative to fast food and other types of unhealthy snacks. However, the problem is that most of dried foods are sticky. They stick to teeth and stay on them for a long time. This can cause dental problems of different types. Keep in mind that dried fruits are not the best food for your teeth. So, brush, but more importantly, floss your teeth or dental implants thoroughly after eating dried fruits.       

3) Potato Chips

Potato chips are very delicious and enjoyable food. However, this food can cause damage both to your teeth and gums. So, if you want to keep your teeth healthy you must avoid potato chips. Since potato chips are classified as junk food anyway, it’s easy to see why this food item should be avoided, not just for the health of your teeth or dental implants, but for overall health as well. 

4) Alcoholic Beverages/ Wine

There is no doubt that high alcohol consumption can negatively affect your teeth as well as your overall health. Alcohol causes tooth decay, gum disease as well as many more dental and health problems. Notably, red wine is a very high up on the “staining scale” as well. If you consume alcoholic beverages regularly, the risk of contracting a dental disease increases dramatically. So, you should definitely cut down on alcohol for the betterment of your dental health.    

5) Sport Drinks

It’s no secret that almost all sport drinks contain high amounts of sugar. Sugar makes sport drinks tasteful, but as every dentist or ad related to the dental field makes a big is very harmful to your teeth. So, avoid sport drinks which are high in sugar.
